an honest comparison

Tansy vs Scrivener

Scrivener is the writer's workhorse: a binder, a corkboard and a compiler that can produce almost any manuscript format. It's a one-time purchase per platform, with no Android version. Tansy is also bought once and also compiles manuscripts, then adds scripts that read themselves aloud, story maps, handwritten notebooks, planning and flashcards in the same library.

Pick Scrivener if…

  • You need the deepest possible control over compiling and output formats.
  • You already know Scrivener well and your projects live in it.
  • You write on Mac or Windows only and don't need a tablet or phone.

Pick Tansy if…

  • You write on an iPad or Android tablet, or want to listen back to drafts on your phone.
  • You also write scripts, draw, plan or keep handwritten notes.
  • You want your manuscript, research, story map and sketches in one library with links between them.
